BetterKeys Privacy Policy
In one sentence: everything BetterKeys does happens on your device, nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere, and we collect no data about you.
What BetterKeys is
BetterKeys is a keyboard you install on your iPhone or iPad. It replaces the on-screen keyboard in the apps you choose to use it in, and offers suggestions, corrections, and accented words as you type. It is made by an independent developer, not a company that trades in data.
What we do not do
- We do not store what you type. The keyboard keeps only the sentence you are currently writing, in memory, so it can suggest the next word. That is discarded as you go.
- We do not send anything over the internet. The keyboard has no server, no network code, and no account system.
- We do not collect analytics, show advertising, or track you across apps or websites.
- We do not read your contacts, your location, your photos, or anything else on your device.
- We do not share data with anyone, because there is nothing to share.
What stays on your device
A few small things are saved locally so the keyboard can behave consistently. None of them leave your device, and none are visible to us.
- Your language choice. Which secondary language you picked in the app (French, Spanish, Portuguese or Italian). The app and the keyboard share this through a private container Apple provides for that purpose.
- Recently used emoji. So they appear first the next time you open the emoji page.
- Setup state. Whether you have finished the one-time setup screens.
Deleting the app removes all of it.
Words iOS shares with every keyboard
iOS offers every keyboard a short list of names and terms it has learned on your device — for example, how a contact's name is capitalised. BetterKeys reads this list so that it does not "correct" a name you typed on purpose. This is a feature of iOS, the list never leaves your device, and BetterKeys does not read your Contacts app itself.
About "Allow Full Access"
When you add a third-party keyboard, iOS offers a setting called Allow Full Access and shows a warning that the developer could transmit what you type. The warning is the same for every keyboard and describes what the permission could allow, not what BetterKeys does.
BetterKeys uses Full Access for exactly one thing: the optional vibration when you tap a key. Without it the keyboard works completely; you just will not feel the haptic feedback. You can turn it on or off at any time in Settings.
Contributions
The app offers optional contributions to support development. These are ordinary in-app purchases handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not see your payment details. Apple's handling of purchases is described in Apple's privacy policy.
Children
BetterKeys collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date. The policy will only ever describe what the app actually does.
